I am one of five children –
the only girl (or rose among thorns as my father says.)
Now before you pity me let me tell you… being the only girl has some benefits. I have my own room; a staff of dedicated personal bodyguards and have received my fair share of spoiling (as evidenced by getting a golden retriever as a peace offering for not having sisters.) But of all the perks I’ve received solitude is by far the best.
I’m sure you can imagine how it goes. The boys would engage in some rough and tumble enterprise after dinner and leave Amy to sit beside mom and dad. Did Amy want to spend her time chatting about grown up things? No. So I spent a lot of time alone growing up. What I found then I find true to this day: in moments of quiet there is little I enjoy more then drawing.
Since then it has been a constant companion that has helped me understand the world and myself a little better. Luckily for me my parents, both tremendously artistically talented in their own right, supported me in this. They continue to encourage me as I try to channel my creativity into something beneficial and worthwhile.
