Knife Light
Knife Light
3264x2448
2013
Combing the processes of Angle Angel (found object mark-making) and Button Cross (light manipulation), Knife Light is the darkest of the scale. While Angel Angel is the brightest of the triptych, Knife Light is the darkest.

Button Cross is an image that is to be viewed alongside a poem
entitled "Shadows." This piece aimed to represent the middle tones of a gradation scale; no bright whites, no dark blacks.
Shadows
Light gives.
Shadows.
Darkness takes.
Light casts shadows.
Shadows.
Darkness swallows.
Light is brutal.
Life is brutal.
Shadows.
Darkness is soothing.
Death is soothing.
Shadows.
Between these extremes lay we in shadows
Striving for either perfection or the grave.
“God rest his soul” say we
For he is saved from and by the blinding light
That casts him
In shadows….

This piece combines the tactile process of art making with digital manipulation. Angle Angel began by mark making with a found object. It originated with a piece of folded paper and the final product was reached with tools in photoshop.
